In 2021, a grant request for $30,000 was submitted and successfully funded to support the development of an outdoor learning environment for young children. Building on BCBS’s prior investments in nature-based early education, this funding enabled installation of natural play structures, garden beds, and open-air learning stations. The grant strengthened opportunities for children to explore, create, and grow in an outdoor setting, while promoting physical activity, curiosity, and social–emotional development.

In 2022, A grant request for $5,000 was submitted but not funded. The proposal aimed to support preschool teachers in strengthening their understanding of positive teacher-child interactions to reduce suspensions and expulsions in early childhood settings. The project would have provided a day of professional learning focused on developmentally appropriate practices, relationship-building strategies, and approaches that promote equitable and supportive classroom environments. Although the request was not awarded, the goals reflected a clear commitment to improving outcomes for young children and advancing preventive approaches in early learning.
